Éloïse Adde has, due to her academic excellence and teaching skills, been promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Historical Studies at CEU. Her research in the fields of  Central and Eastern EuropeCultural HeritageIntellectual History, and Medieval Studies covers late-medieval Brabant and Bohemia. State-building and nation, political thought and discourse, and the rise of "individuals" and individualism are at the core of her work, whilst she also deals with manuscripts and the dissemination of texts and ideas. Her most recent publications focus on, to take to title of a book chapter, Shaping the Nation in Medieval Europe and she is currently working on a monograph on Nation - Power - Subjectivity: The Making of National Subjects in Late Medieval Bohemia and Brabant (1300-1450).

As well as ably serving as MA program director for Medieval Studies, Eloise’s classes are extremely well reviewed by her students. These cover nation-building, understandings of the past, and manuscript studies, as well as an upcoming class on (everyone’s favorite nation-builder) Alexander the Great. In the words of PhD student, Roman Tymoshevskyi, “Eloise is a great teacher, always open and extremely interested to interact with students both inside and outside the classroom.  Besides, she is a very cheerful person who inspires others with enormous energy and curiosity.” This energy and curiosity are seen in all aspects of her research, teaching and administrative work, as well as her commitment to fostering community spirit in the department.

The following testimonials evidence the respect and affection that her students have for her:

“First and foremost, my sincere congratulations to Eloïse on a well-deserved promotion. The Medieval Nation course she taught was one of the most enlightening and enjoyable classes I have ever attended. The course material, combined with Eloïse's engaging teaching style and supportive attitude, fostered a positive and welcoming atmosphere in the classroom. Furthermore, her approachability outside of lectures is truly commendable! After participating in her Medieval Nation course, I realized she would be an excellent mentor for my MA thesis. Meeting her has been a fortunate experience and my pleasure, and I've learned so much from her. My heartfelt congratulations on her promotion! (And yes, I am a glad member of Eloïse fan club. Je m'appelle croissant!)” Ahmet Demirel, MA student

“I am very grateful to have Eloise as my advisor and professor and can easily say that this promotion was well deserved. Taking her Medieval Nation and Uses and Abuses class was a real treat, and some of my favorite courses at CEU! And you can tell that she is someone who just really cares about the academic and personal wellbeing of her students. In fact, Eloise has continuously shown herself as a pillar of the Medieval Studies community. It was a privilege to perform together with her in the seasonal departmental plays as Abelard and Eloise, and Lancelot and Merlin! I will never forget her Galette des Rois that she shared with everyone for the day of the three kings or getting to meet her celebrity cats Epopée and Erato. Overall, I’m thankful to have Eloise as a formative part of my CEU experience, and would like to congratulate her on her promotion as associate professor!" Hanna Feuer, MA student
