Departmental Recipients of Marietta Blau Grants

The Marietta Blau-Grant is awarded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research to excellent PhD scholars at Austrian universities. It offers financial support for stays abroad that serve to optimize the candidate's dissertation. This summer, three of our PhD students were awarded grants. 

 

MA in Museum Studies Launches

Last Thursday saw the launch of our new MA in Museum Studies. Students, staff and faculty gathered at the Wien Museum to celebrate the new program, where a cohort of students from seven countries will spend the next two years devoting themselves to an interdisciplinary study of history, deepening their knowledge of museums and learning the practical aspects of the diverse range of work performed by museum professionals.

Prof. Jozsef Laszlovszky, currently on sabbatical but otherwise director of our Cultural Heritage program, has been featured in an article on travelstyle.gr. Discussing the history and cultural heritage of the Matild palace in Budapest. Prof. Laszlovszky (Joska to his students) says that "the Matild Palace was one of the most important, iconic palaces in the center of Pest".

Baukje van den Berg at Princeton

Prof. Baukje van den Berg spent two months of the summer teaching break at the Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton. As a visiting fellow, she worked on little-studied texts related to the teaching practice of John Tzetzes (ca. 1110–1180), one of the most prolific grammarians and polymaths of the Byzantine era.
