Towns between Empires cover

Our alumna, Mária Pakucs, senior researcher at the Nicolae Iorga Institute of History in Bucharest has just published an edited volume with CEU Press. Towns between Empires contains contributions regarding urban administration and governance in the historical regions that are now in Romania, and that fall under the early modern concept of good governance. It is available in Open Access under the link above.

Cultural Exchange in the Middle Ages

The second “Cultural Exchange in the Middle Ages” summer school was hosted by Charles University in Prague from May 21-28th. Participants came from universities in Denmark and Iceland, as well as from Charles University and CEU. Over the course of the week, students attended a series of lectures themed around cultural exchange in the Middle Ages, particularly focused on how evidence for exchange is found in the matter and the text of medieval manuscripts.

The program for Urban Religious Space and its Languages is now online. This workshop is part of the EurAsian Transformations Cluster of Excellence Urban Multilingualism Workshop Series. On June 12 and 13, it will explore the languages of religion, extending attention to their spatial dimension.

Field Trip 2025: Graz, Maribor and Zagreb

This year, our academic field trip took students to Graz, Maribor and Zagreb from Monday, May 19 to Friday, May 23. During the trip, we heard presentations from faculty and students, saw many historic sites, visited museums and very much enjoyed talking to people from across the department who we might not otherwise meet.
