
The collected publications of István György Tóth (1956-2005), former professor in the department, are now available online. They can be downloaded from Academia.edu.
Prof. Tóth was an internationally renowned researcher of early modern social and cultural history. He completed his university studies at the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University, then at Nancy University in France. He defended his candidate's thesis in 1991, habilitated in 2004 and obtained the title of doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
From 1981 he worked at the Institute of History, where in 1999 he became head of the department of early modern times. He took an active part in Hungarian and international university education, taught at Central European University from 1991, taught as an associate professor at the University of Miskolc between 1992 and 1997, and was a visiting professor at several foreign universities (Freiburg, Paris, New York). He also took part in professional public organizations. He was a board member of the International and Hungarian Eighteenth-Century Society and the Hungarian-Italian Joint Committee of Historians. He also held the position of chairman of the jury of OTKA history.
