What is the purpose of this website?

We hope to provide students of religion, both from CEU and the wider academic community, with teaching materials, books, articles, and activities to aid their learning. These resources were first collected for CEU's "Global Christianities: Past and Present" undergraduate course, but we now hope that they will help students, researchers, and the general public to understand and engage with themes covered in the course.

Who can access the materials on this website?

The primary audience is students enrolled in the BA course, and we will continue to update the materials as the course develops. However, we welcome anyone interested in learning more about the history and development of Christianity from antiquity to the present day, and across the globe.

What kind of teaching materials are available?

We have collected a basic bibliography. To this have been added links to Youtube videos. These materials are meant to supplement the classroom experience and help students to continue learning about and exploring topics that particularly interest them.

Where can I find the additional reading list?

The additional reading list is located under "Resources" section, found to the left on the navigation bar. We have categorized it by topic, including books, journal articles, and online resources. These can be browsed and one or two particularly relevant or interesting items chosen, or the list can be explored at greater depth, drawing on comparisions and contrasts between different authors and media.

Are there links to external resources?

Yes, the website features a curated list of bibliographic references to external resources. These include, but are not limited to, academic articles, documentaries, museum collections, and scholarly websites. We hope that they will provide further insight into the themes of the course.

What important themes are covered on the website?
The website addresses major themes within the purview of Global Christianities. We provide definitions of concepts that may be as yet unfamiliar to students approaching the topic for the first time. We also explore the spread of Christianity between and within different continents; the role of missionaries; colonial and postcolonial influences; theological diversity; ecumenism; and contemporary global movements within Christianity.

Can I contact the teaching assistant through the website?
Yes, there is a "Contact" section where you can send questions or feedback. Responses are typically asap during the academic term in which the course is taught.

Are there any recommended prerequisites for using the website effectively?

No formal prerequisites are needed.
