The Kubinyi Award ceremony took place on 30 January in the Baroque Hall of the Budapest History Museum, with two of our former students receiving recognition.
The 2026 András Kubinyi Award in Medieval Studies was awarded to Virág Somogyvári who graduated from the one-year MA program in Medieval Studies in 2016. She started working on the topic of “Late Medieval Bone Saddles” during this year under the supervision of Béla Zsolt Szakács, and she continued with this for her PhD at the Péter Pázmány Catholic University in Budapest and defended her dissertation there, also supervised by Prof. Szakács, in 2025. She received the award for her dissertation that offered a new dating and contextualization of this group of secular prestige objects.
Tünde Fegyvári-Komori who defended her dissertation titled “A Network of Consumption: Asian Decorative Ceramics and their Distribution in Hungary and the Balkans during the Ottoman Period” at CEU in 2024 (supervisors: József Laszlovszky and Katalin Szende) received an honorable mention for her work.
