The Archival Impulse: Knowledge Production, Record Keeping, and Imperial  Governance

Next week, Prof. Jan Hennings from the department is co-organizing a conference with colleagues from the Austrian Academy of Sciences and as part of the EurAsian Transformations Cluster of Excellence. Entitled The Archival Impulse: Knowledge Production, Record Keeping, and Imperial Governance (15th-20th Centuries)the conference will focus on the “archival turn” and examine how archives as sites of knowledge production, but also of nescience and unknowing, grew along with imperial expansion in Eurasia from the fifteenth to the twentieth century. The conference will take place between Wednesday, March 18 and Friday, March 20 at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
