It is with sadness and gratitude that we say goodbye to Csilla Dobos on the occasion of her retirement today. Csilla's dedication to CEU has, over her many years of service, made a deep impact upon the success of the university.
In the former Department of Medieval Studies, and more recently the Department of Historical Studies, she has been a constant presence guiding generations of MA students and PhD candidates through the day-to-day complexities of academic life. Like a monastic scribe in a medieval scriptorium, Csilla worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Her work was often unseen, but not undervalued. To take the imagery further, like an abbess of a medieval convent, Csilla balanced the practical with the spiritual; she was attentive to the needs of senior faculty while keeping the larger vision of knowledge and learning in view. Whether through a simple conversation over lunch or a moment of guidance during a busy week, she made colleagues feel heard, valued, and supported. She has made a lasting impact that will echo in the department long after her return from Vienna to CEU's original home city of Budapest.
