On Friday, February 27, students from the Department of Historical Studies presented at and organized the 5th Annual Late Antique and Byzantine Studies Workshop. Co-organized with doctoral candidates from the Doctoral School of Cultural and Historical Studies at the University of Vienna, the event was hosted at the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies in Vienna's first district. The event was an informal workshop where graduate students from across Vienna were invited to present papers on their ongoing research and received constructive feedback in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
After a brief welcome given by Ludmilla Eramova and Kassandra Cox, the afternoon saw eight papers presented on topics as diverse as papyri from Late Antique Egypt, Slavonic liturgy, and romances of Alexander the Great. MA students Naomi Ho, Jacob Badger and Kassandra Cox presented from our department, alongside current PhD student Gunhyuk Lee and alumnus (now PhD student at Uni Wien) Eldad Voremberg. The event ended with a wine reception to increase networking opportunities and promote future collaborations between CEU and the University of Vienna.
