Late Antique, Byzantine and Eastern Christian Studies comprise three overlapping fields of study that focus on the cultures, religions and societies in the later Roman and Byzantine Empires, as well as on Christianity in the Middle East and India. Eastern Christian Studies focus on different forms of Eastern Christianity, including liturgy, creeds, doctrinal controversies and their social implications, from the late antique to the early modern era, from the Mediterranean to India. Late Antique and Byzantine Studies also discuss the secular aspects of culture and society, including profane literature, philosophy, politics etc.
