Every year the department hosts conferences organised by faculty and students. Recent conferences include Human Nature - Humans and Nature in the History of Political Thought (co-organized by László Kontler and Matthias Riedl), From Ctesiphon to Toledo: A Comparative View on Early Church Councils in East and West (organized by Volker Menze), and the student-led Religion in Transformation: Changing the Conditions of (and by) Religiosity (CESAR) and Telling Byzantine History: Current Trends and New Directions (co-organized with doctoral students from the University of Vienna).
