The study of gender history at CEU's Department of Historical Studies focuses on a period that stretches from late antiquity to the 21st century. Exploring late ancient, medieval, pre-modern, and contemporary ideological inscriptions of gender, the human body, and sexuality at the intersection of race, class, religion, and science in a global perspective represents a special strength of the Department. Faculty members study topics as wide-ranging as religious and literary constructions of gender, the politics of gendering bodies and sexualities, the history of gendered labour and inequalities, history of women, history of masculinities, eugenics and the history of modern medical and scientific perspectives on gender.
