Emilia Castelao is a first year PhD student from the United States who researches chess history and the International Chess Federation (FIDE) as an institution of cultural diplomacy. She did her master’s at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, where she wrote her thesis on chess as a cultural movement in the Soviet Union. She has been working in chess since 2022 as a photographer and historian on the Historical Committee at FIDE. In 2023, she launched the Women in Chess Foundation with her co-founder, Michael Duke.

The CESAR Conference 2024: The Religion in Transformation: Changing the Conditions of (and by) Religiosity conference, hosted by CEU and organised by Gulrano Ataeva and Karsten Schuil together with the organizing team of CESAR, took place from Friday, October 4 to Sunday, October 6, at CEU campus and Vienna's Weltmuseum.
