The Material Life of Nature Representations in Europe: Conference Report

On Monday, November 18 and Tuesday, November 19, the Department of Historical Studies hosted scholars from Vienna, Prague and Birmingham for a workshop discussing the The Material Life of Nature Representations in Europe. We considered visual and textual artifacts, ranging from late antiquity to the present day, and drawing out comparisions and contrasts.

Early Modern Workshop: Berkeley-Berlin-Freiburg-London-Vienna

The Early Modern History Workshop is a collaborative research experiment, a week-long summer school in which postgraduate students and early-career researchers from leading universities interrogate current approaches to the discipline of Early Modern History and grapple with pressing methodological questions. The Early Modern History Workshop began in 2011 as an informal initiative between the universities of Princeton, Oxford and Münster.

Museum as Studio

Khadija von Zinnenberg Carroll and Marcus Neustetter's Museum-as-Studio approach invites students of the Central European University to respond to its setting, spaces and content and present questions, provocations and inspirations through temporary interventions in the museum. The practice-led experimental research activities which took place during the months of April and May in the Wien Museum tested ideas and formats.

CEU’s ‘Flying Weltman’—Where Gaming Meets Heritage at Weltmuseum Wien

In an exciting blend of cultural heritage and interactive gaming, first-year students of the Cultural Heritage Studies Program at Central European University have launched "the Flying Weltman," an educational quest game that took place at the Weltmuseum Wien. The game, developed by Karina Assadilayeva, Çağla Aydın, Daria Chuprasova, and Galina K., offers a fresh perspective on museum experiences by engaging participants directly with the artifacts' histories.
