This course prepares students for careers in the museum field, both in conceptual and practical terms. In regard to the former, students will be introduced to seeing and understanding museums from the perspective of a professional rather than a visitor. This will happen through joint excursions and subsequent reflections designed to teach students how to read museum work beyond the surface of hung walls. On the practical level, students will be taught how to present themselves in order to attain professional success in the museum field. This includes instruction in writing CVs and cover letters as well as other professional texts, from conference papers to publications in museum journals. It will also cover strategies of professional networking as well as interview etiquette and other practical matters that bring success in museum careers.
