Taught By

Course Description

What does it mean to educate in the museum? How do museum educators work with the varied and diverse publics? How can education become a central goal of all the work a museum does? In this course, we will develop educational programs for the exhibition project developed in Principles of Curating. We will learn about the theory and practice of museum education. We will explore various methods for teaching the public, from schoolchildren to intergenerational groups, and from adults to disabled visitors. Working in close tandem with the other fundamentals courses, we will experiment with various pedagogies, learn how to work closely with curators to create public-oriented exhibitions, and how to work with marketing to reach diverse audiences.
